Valentine's Day

I had had this idea ages ago and it wallowed in my folder incomplete; deciding to submit it for VC secret gifts finally lit the fire under me sufficiently to get it done!
Technically, in the original painting, the figures are meant to be brother and sister, but L/L share blood so it still works. I did consider making the pitchfork a scythe instead, but then it would have had to be Louis in the overalls, and Lestat in the dress, and the height difference wouldn't have been acceptable and ARGH!! I just had to make it simple for myself, lest it remain incomplete.
There's a little extra bit that I revised in there other than adding the title and inserting the faces of Lestat/Louis, can you spot it? Refer to American Gothic by Grant Wood for comparison!

So I had to post an entry because I have multiple items... So much to do! I actually seem to thrive spinning amidst this flurry of activity, otherwise, why would I keep stirring it up?

Apr. 3rd, 2014 12:36 pmGah, I feel the need to apologize again. I've been absent from VCM but creating up a storm of VC gifs on tumblr, the very place that nearly killed VCM :P
Let me explain u a thing, and I mean that in the gentlest way: sometimes I get these graphic creative urges and I barrage tumblr with the output of this. To barrage VCM with it (even though MEDIA is a obviously a goal of this place!) seems rude. Like a kid constantly drawing and shoving those drawings in your face. I don't want to be that kid. I'm very happy that people like what I do, I guess it's just easier on tumblr bc alot of them are strangers, and I don't have to worry too much about offending anyone.
Hosting these images on tumblr is actually a necessary step to sharing images in VCM anyway, bc they have to be hosted somewhere so that there's a link for DW to source the image from. It's just that I am usually to busy to then bring them into this personal journal area... which I think I still want to use as more of a place for text things that don't fit into VCM, like excessive walls of text or drabbles that outgrow their wordcount limit, rather than as an actual journal.
Anyway my point is that satisfying those creative urges is somewhat time & energy consuming in itself, and then I'm left sort of drained, too, and can't brain further in the discussion threads here... especially bc my need for thoroughness dictates that my commentary is usually Walls of Text.
I am trying to be more minimal in commentary though, and I think that's really helping :D

I added a few more gifs around it to enhance the crackiness...

I'm just running in here to throw this QotD exchange in bc it seems quite relevant to the discussion of whether our vampires should meddle in human affairs/politics beyond their own need to kill... and the whole topic of Lestat teaching Louis to follow his example in "killing indiscriminately," well:
1) Lestat was just desperate to get Louis to kill PEOPLE at that point, so he may have been trying to appeal to Louis' moral/psychological/etc. dilemma(s) about it,
2) we're getting Lestat's words 3rd-hand, from Louis (2nd) to Daniel (3rd) (we're not even considering that Daniel might have also had an publisher/editor to satisfy), so it might not be exactly what Lestat said, and,
3) again, IWTV-Lestat is not the same character as EverythingWrittenAfterThat-Lestat. Both in representation and personal growth.
Plus, it also has the Louis "described as the most ruthless, or the most vampiric, of the lot because he simply kills those who cross his path." which I underlined.

So I think that actually answers alot here, I think alot of the vampires would probably have agreed with this reasoning. Well in actuality they DID, forming a unified front on the subject against Akasha's designs.
As for Louis refusing powerful blood...
Marius thinking about it here:

This one was so gifted yet not gifted at the same time; he wondered if the human light would go out of Louis's eyes if he ever gained more power, if he ever had, for instance, a little of the blood of Marius in his veins...Just a little blood, and Louis might be stronger, true, but then he might lose the human tenderness, the human wisdom that no one could give another; the gift of knowing others' suffering with which Louis had probably been born."
So do with that what you will... Louis does want to keep what humanity he has left. After making Madeleine, he was especially distraught at having lost another piece, he assumed it was the last, of his humanity:
"'For you see,' I said to her in that same calm voice,'what died tonight an this room was not that woman... What has died in this room tonight is the last vestige in me of what was human'"
I couldn't find the part where Maharet talks about it, but I feel like she does at some point...
I'm intrigued by your questions on that subject. First I have one, though. Wouldn't it be a huge benefit for Louis to accept that stronger blood in that he wouldn't have to kill as often? One would think that would be reason enough for him to take it without further question!

I think HE thinks washing his hands of judgment makes him good, because he's not weighing one big-time druglord's evil against a high-school drug-dealer's evil (which is more evil? Which death would be more harm done/benefit gained can be argued either way), or a pedophile of strangers against a pedophile of one's own family (again, which is MORE evil? Which death would be more harm done/benefit gained can be argued either way), for 2 examples. Even in our own criminal justice system, there are appeals on the convictions of practically every level of crime! The appeals are very often based on the judgment of the level the severity of the crime, because the punishment is linked to that.
Louis feels he's Doing The Right Thing in not choosing, after all, there's a huge spectrum of Evil to Innocent people/animals who die every day on the street and in the wild, many in much more gruesome ways than his gentle kiss... this is a huge topic, too of course... I guess what I'm saying is that Louis needs to kill to live, and if this is what works for him, then it doesn't make him more or less repulsive than Lestat who DOES (for the most part) kill discriminately. HOWEVER IT IS MORE repulsive when Lestat, who again, DOES try to kill only evildoers, ends up killing an innocent now and then. He's not perfect. We always knew that. They're both damaged, aside from being vampires, and managing as best they can.
Being somewhat still attached to his religion I think Louis would be following this quote: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" (John 8:7), amirite? Someone is going to shoot me down for misinterpreting this quote, I can see that happening already... siiiighh.... From the perspective of someone who feels he has no right to judge, being someone WITH SIN, then EVERY unnatural death is an equal crime, so not judging means an equally unnatural death for an innocent or an evil person and everyone in between on the spectrum. Truly the definition of indiscriminate.
Drug-dealing Wall Street bankers wouldn't be hard to find, tho, maybe harder to find in New Orleans.

Truly, this explosion on VC_M is making me so happy, I am cry. I just can't keep up with it... it's like a hurricane of fandom love.
But I can't comment during the workday, and here it is, I'm free, and I am creatively a little stifled by the joy... does that even make sense?! No. Not at all. Siiiigh.
Partly also tho, today was a rough day at work. Everything was going well until around 2pm, and then there was an avalanche of crap to deal with, and I would also point out that none of it was my fault. Not that it would be. Of course not.
The roughness of the day + watching as the CAPSFRI post grew more and MOAR talkative (I get notifications on my phone), but restrained from responding... exquisite torture... it all combined to produce a tiny kernel of creativity. I wished I could, like Brian Callahan, have an insider perspective on what our beloved L/L were doing at that very moment... at 2:47 pm on a Monday afternoon it wouldn't be too exciting of course, something like this... It's too short to even be a drabble!! I can't resist sharing it with you...

TO BE SERIOUS FOR A MOMENT, HOWEVER, THE ULTIMATE QUESTION FOR LOUIS (WHETHER YOU CONSIDER MtD AS THE LAST OF THE CANON OR NOT) WOULD BE WHETHER HE REALLY REGRETS SAYING "YES" TO LESTAT. IT'S DOUBTFUL IF HE COULD EVER ADMIT TO HIMSELF THAT HE TRULY ADORES LESTAT, AND ADORED CLAUDIA, AND YES, DOES DERIVE PLEASURE IN THIS LIFE. ONLY MERRICK MADE HIM QUESTION THAT, REALLY, AND THAT'S UNFAIR BECAUSE SHE USED HER WITCHERY ON HIM. I WOULD SAY THAT IF LOUIS CAN'T ADMIT THAT HE'S ACTUALLY GLAD TO HAVE THIS LIFE, THEN HE ALSO CAN'T ADMIT THAT HE REGRETS IT. A FRUSTRATING POSITION.

1. IF YOU ACCEPT, HOWEVER, YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR LIFE BEHIND. YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO TURN ANYONE YOU KNEW OR EVER SEE THEM AGAIN. YOU CAN'T GO BACK FOR YOUR PETS OR FAKE YOUR DEATH OR DELETE YOUR INTERNET BROWSING HISTORY.
2. IF YOU SAY YES, THE VAMPIRE WILL WHISK YOU AWAY THEN AND THERE, AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REMAIN WITH THEM FOR AT LEAST 50 YEARS.
My publicly posted response, but in sentence case:
Had to wait for other people to post first, afraid to be the first to reply, for fear of attempting to be silly and it reading as flippant, or killing the post itself with a wall of text... So I'll try to keep it brief and go into more depth in my own damn journal, if anyone wants the larger wall of text to climb... XD
1. Would I do it? Yes! Of course. F*&k my family and friends, etc., lol. And I'd choose Louis. First of all, although he may appear weak, he's got strength enough. He's done it successfully twice. Further proof of strength: Aren't there sporadic references throughout the VC that he takes out any extraneous fledglings or vagabonds who dare to hunt New Orleans? And particularly appealing as targets if they have the brilliant idea to seek him or Lestat out (E.G., the fledglings and others circling the church holding a comatose Lestat in MtD). Plus, "the Dark Gift is different for each of us." So Louis could be a carrier of decent latent powers.
2. But more importantly, to get Louis in the position wherein he has to override his principles, he would have to be in that tantalizing state of bewitched devotion (E.G., Armand admitted to *pushing* Louis into giving it to Madeleine, and Merrick admitted to *pushing* him into giving it to her). To be on the receiving end of Louis' devotion, whether legitimate or not, would be intoxicating. Not even Lestat gets 100% devotion from Louis. Remember the tortured scene in TotBT in which Louis wouldn't give Lestat the Dark Gift. The ONE person Louis is supposed to be the MOST LEGITIMATELY DEVOTED TO. I've brought that scene up before, so I'll refrain from beating that particular dead horse. For NOW. Keeping the corpse for later...
3. So, choosing Louis, if I wanted Super Deluxe Brat Prince©®™ powers, too, seems that those are easily acquired as long as you know how to tease His Royal Bratness properly. One can argue that Merrick doesn't even count as canon, but she only had to exist as Louis' fledgling to be given Super Deluxe Brat Prince©®™ powers. Stat-y-pants loves to give that out. Stat-y-pants is a manwhore about giving that out. I think he lusts over the ACT of giving that out.
