So some of you probably saw my tumblr post on this, but this entry is for non-tumblr people, and also to add a little more description since I have more room here *stretches in the blank space* to further flesh out the experience. No pressure to comment here but I thought you might be happy to live vicariously through me at the very least!

I met Santiago Stephen Rea last night after his performance in A Particle of Dread, and brought him two headshots, intending for him to choose which one he preferred to sign. High res of the below shots here.

He signed both.

I was very pleased. Hell I was near-squeeeeing with delight. Next stop, frame store, going to frame them both up and hang one at home, and one in the office! Been at this job for a few months now, it's time to start decorating my office. Tastefully, of course.

Briefly, A Particle of Dread is a play in which Monsieur Rea plays Oedipus, in variations. It's very intense, and very murderous (and, side-topic: the man who plays his father was drop-dead gorgeous). We had 2nd row seats and let me tell you, Rea's characters were dynamic and went through a spectrum of emotions... such feels to experience that just a few feet away.

^Me and my butt and Santiago Stephen Rea. BTW it was quite humid and rainy so my hair is fluffier than I'd like, but his was more so, so that made me feel better about it.

Sorry you can’t see my face with him, someone took that picture for me! I felt like I’d asked enough of him, couldn’t ask for a selfie, too… and so you get my backside and his frontside! If he's ever in a play in NY again, and I see him again, maybe I'll ask for the selfie w/ him only. It seemed like looking a gift horse in the mouth to ask for both when he had just given an intense performance and probably just wanted to head to the theatre bar for an adult beverage with the other actors, who had all found their way there.

That bar is open to the public, and it has great drink specials and live music so I think I've found a new, and classy, establishment to meet intriguing people.

To explain the “20 yrs” comment: I had told him I’ve been a fan of his for 20 yrs “…because of this,” and that’s when I handed him the headshots. He smiled, said, “Oh, that was so fun.” And then I asked him for a memorable story from the set. He thought for a moment, and said he couldn’t really remember anything specific except the Fred Astaire gag, and I let him explain it to me, even though WE ALREADY KNOW HOW THAT WORKED FROM THE DVD bc clearly, it was his most memorable moment.

I held my tongue about how his cape and hair, still faithful to gravity, sort of negated the upside-down effect. He probably has heard that before and it would have been absurdly rude.

I also asked him why he was wearing the birdskull in these headshots, but not in the film (it was a skull tie pin in the movie) and he said that these shots were taken before filming started, just testing out different costuming ideas. THAT was dumb bc I just checked now, and he IS wearing the birdskull! Argh. *facepalm* Oh well. I don't think he'll check me. Partially I was testing the envelope for how much I could really talk with him about IWTV, and the answer was, not that much. I did not mention that the VC fandom still loves him. I did not mention that I have a VC tumblr. I did not mention that we write fanfic and make fanart in connection with that series. Next time, maybe.

(pardon that the pic below is a memeything, I didn't make it, but you can see the birdskull there)

PS. He liked my pen. It’s a Marvy calligraphy pen, 2.0. I almost gave it to him. It’s a great pen to use when getting autographs bc of the variable line weight.

Excellent story! How wonderful---and how nice of him to pass a little time and sign both photos! Saw this on tumblr but wanted to comment here as well.
